Policies for Reservations and Requests

Computer lab reservations:

1. Class reservations cannot be made by phone. They must be made online.
See How to Reserve a Computer Lab in the Language Media Center.

2. Instructors may not reserve the same time slot every week for the entire semester.

(The Language Media Center reserves the right to modify or cancel any reservations that do not comply with this policy.)

3. Lab reservation requests must be made by midnight of the preceding day.

4. Audio or video demonstrations for classes must be requested in advance, on the online reservation form. Instructors must attend a training session for the specific software before the class.

5. If you would like your students' audio and/or video files to be saved in a folder on the server, you must request the folder in advance on the online reservation form.

6. Flexibility may be required for advance reservations.

Recording studio reservations

Reservations for the recording studio must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Flip camera reservations

To reserve Flip video cameras, please send an email to polyglot@pitt.edu. Requests can be made up to 2 weeks in advance. In order for better service and an increased chance at successful reservation, please submit your request 1 week in advance. Last-minute requests are also possible up to 24 hours in advance, but please note that success cannot be guaranteed in such cases.

Media services:

1. Requests must be made by the instructor of a course.

2. Requests will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. However, departmental requests will supercede those from individual instructors.
3. An Instructor Request for Services Form* must accompany all reservations and requests.

4. Requests may not be made over the telephone.

Minimum times needed for the LMC to complete projects:

Duplicate tapes or CDs:
48 hours
Make an audio CD after oral testing:
24 hours
Digitize audio/video files:
3 days per cassette or CD
(Note: allow extra time if editing is needed)
Install new software on all computers:

1 month

Prepare instructional handouts for software:
2 weeks

Note: During peak periods at the beginning of each semester, please allow extra time for projects to be completed.

Storage of Media

Student recordings will be kept in the Language Media Center for one semester.

Other media will be kept for 60 days, if storage space is available.
