Project Description and Rationale
Technical Challenges:
I attempted to make a web page, which is very much a work in progress. I learned that all Macs are not equal. I started the page in the Mac Lab at Pitt, saved the page to floppy disk, only to learn that my old Mac at home (circa 1995) that still has a floppy drive found the disk to be unreadable, wanting to initialize it. It also found the PC-formatted zip disk to be unreadable. My iMac would read the zip disk, but there was no way to put in the floppy.
So it was back to the drawing board at home. I had no problem working in Netscape Composer, naming, saving, changing background color, or making links to URLs and photos. I was relieved to see that language accents are simple with a Mac even in html format. I did, however, find it impossible to make a link to text. The only work around I found was unsatisfactory; saving the document in html format which could be recognized by Composer for the paste function. The problem is that the format was completely garbled and subsequently could not be changed in Composer. Transferring pages of text to html or linking would be very helpful since it would avoid having to spend lots of time retyping.
I also found it impossible to make links to audio on my home system because I don't have QuickTime Pro.
It did take some time to locate and update useful URLs to provide as language resource links. I started locating and updating texts to use in September for the web page, which proved very time consuming as well. That explains the brevity of my web page.
Rationale:
The idea behind a web page and its utility was discussed in class. I make reference to that discussion here.
1. It provides an ideal resource for students to access information that they repeatedly ask for, misplace, and "lose."
2. It also provides students and teachers alike with a bookmarking system of often used URLs.

3. It could also be very useful for out of class activities including homework assignment sheets, actual daily homework activities including links to the internet, audio, movies, or other projects.
